NAB Las Vegas, Booth SU7507, April 2010 – Hamlet, leading supplier of affordable, high-precision test and measurement equipment, will be demonstrating its range of software-based systems at NAB in Las Vegas, including the new Reel-Check Enterprise edition of Reel-Check. Reel-Check-EV is a suite of Windows programs that run on a standard PC platform without special hardware. It performs a complete set of quality control tests on any audio/video media content. The software is designed to operate either automatically or be run under direct user control, and can be used as a networked facility. The enterprise version (EV) allows multiple instances to run in parallel across multiple servers/workstations to increase throughput of a common task schedule.
Reel-Check can work with virtually all professional video formats: standard or high definition, uncompressed or compressed, provided a suitable DirectShow codec is available. Embedded audio, stereo or multi-channel surround sound can be extracted and checked alongside the video for audible or visual impairments on a frame by frame basis. Reel-Check tests for visual impairments in baseband-decoded video and audible problems due to poor encoding, media defects degradation or errors originating in the encoded source content.
Unlike the standalone single engine version of Reel-Check, the enterprise version is not intended to show waveforms, vector, previews and other displays while logging is in progress. This facility is available by invoking Hamlet’s VidScope-plus on a workstation or PC that has access to the media under scrutiny. The product is capable of automated checking on ingest or of finished file content on local or network drives. A multiple watch folder facility allows any network user with appropriate privileges the ability to queue content for test, including dedicated tools to add quality control to PC-based systems, and for detecting content which may cause photo-sensitive epilepsy.
The Hamlet range of test and measurement devices and quality control software systems can be seen at NAB Las Vegas, Booth SU7507, 12-15 April 2010.
Notes to editors:
Currently celebrating its 24th anniversary in 2010, Hamlet Video International Limited is a British company dedicated to the design, manufacture and supply of innovative, high quality and cost-effective test, measurement, monitoring and quality control equipment to the video and broadcast industries worldwide.
Hamlet has completely eliminated CRTs from its instruments, thereby removing the need for routine display recalibration and thus reducing significantly the cost of ownership of a precision instrument. With its latest devices using an all-digital internal platform, Hamlet has moved towards a calibrated-for-life test and measurement system.
Hamlet’s vectorscopes and waveform monitors either use an internal precision LCD display or provide an output to either a video or a computer monitor, which can be routed to the operator’s convenience. In either case the graticules are generated digitally within the device, so provides a continually reliable and accurate reference.
The company also develops test and measurement software to be used in conjunction with broadcast systems running on standard computers for the analysis of base band or file based signals. Finally, Hamlet manufactures digitally-stable signal generators as a companion to its measurement devices.
