Broadcast Video Expo, London, Stand K40, February 16 2010 – The Hamlet MicroFlex is now widely recognised as the most powerful, convenient and cost-effective handheld precision broadcast test instrument. The full range of its capabilities will be demonstrated at BVE in London, including the latest module which adds fibre connectivity to the test signal generator option, so engineers can check fibre circuits end to end with a single device. The new module is in the standard form factor, so it can be used in any Hamlet digital platform: as well as the hand portable MicroFlex, it can be used in the rack mount, on-screen display MonitorScope and DigiScope for fixed or free standing installations.
The fibre module, which was shown as a technology demonstration at IBC2009 and will be available in Q2, is a variant of the existing TSG module which offers both signal generation and test in the same device. It joins a range of modules which cover the complete range of signal measurement from A/V and SD through HD to 3Gb/s. Some modules include the capability of analysing the integrity of a digital circuit and displaying it as an eye pattern, widely recognised as the most practical test.
“We added the eye pattern to the MicroFlex in response to requests from customers,” said Steve Nunney, director of Hamlet. “Over the last few months eye pattern modules have been flying off the shelves. With an increasing use of fibre in installations, we are sure that the new module will be equally popular.”
The complete Hamlet range of test and measurement devices and quality control software systems can be seen at BVE at Earls Court 2 in London, 16 – 18 February, on stand K40.
Notes to editors:
Currently celebrating its 24th anniversary in 2010, Hamlet Video International Limited is a British company dedicated to the design, manufacture and supply of innovative, high quality and cost-effective test, measurement, monitoring and quality control equipment to the video and broadcast industries worldwide.
Hamlet has completely eliminated CRTs from its instruments, thereby removing the need for routine display recalibration and thus reducing significantly the cost of ownership of a precision instrument. With its latest devices using an all-digital internal platform, Hamlet has moved towards a calibrated-for-life test and measurement system.
Hamlet’s vectorscopes and waveform monitors either use an internal precision LCD display or provide an output to either a video or a computer monitor, which can be routed to the operator’s convenience. In either case the graticules are generated digitally within the device, so provides a continually reliable and accurate reference.
The company also develops test and measurement software to be used in conjunction with broadcast systems running on standard computers for the analysis of base band or file based signals. Finally, Hamlet manufactures digitally-stable signal generators as a companion to its measurement devices.
